Dwayne Holliday is a dancer, choreographer and dance scholar. After a successful career as a professional ballet dancer in international companies, he studied contemporary dance at the Center for Contemporary Dance - Cologne University of Music and Dance before working in the contemporary independent scene. He holds a master's degree in dance studies and is currently writing his PhD. His artistic works have been shown in various theaters, museums and public spaces and he has produced a number of dance films. Together with choreographer Maria Golding, he founded the temporary collective "Golding/Holliday" and in recent years has been regularly supported by grants and local and national project funding. In addition to his choreographic work, he is regularly invited to participate in various choreographic projects as a dancer, and has published articles on dance and worked as a critic for international publications. He worked from 2020-2022 for Theater Dortmund at the interface between arts education and schools. His previous artistic research deals with a postcolonial, gender and trans-theoretical deconstruction of ballet, a funded research he started in 2020. He worked for three years as program and residency director at Tanzfaktur in Cologne. He is a father. In 2021 he successfully founded, curated and organised “Beamed Dance Film Festival” an NPN funded project.
Dwayne Holliday danced in Cincinnati Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, Deutsch Oper am Rhein, Theater Ulm.
He worked for 5 years as a writer for Dance Europe magazine.
He currently creates and dances in the field of free-lance contemporary dance.
He is currently writing his PhD.
He has taught ballet, contemporary dance, and improvisation classes for professional companies and universities in Europe and the United States.
He is a Certified Yoga and Gyrokenesis Method® instructor, and teaches at yoga teacher trainings internationally.
